The sound of the Universe - A dialogue under the stars between gravitational waves and cosmic sounds
On the 19th of July, 2022, the European Gravitational Observatory organised an art and science event in Lajatico, a municipality in the province of Pisa, internationally renowned for its Teatro del Silenzio (‘Theatre of Silence’), owned by the world-famous tenor, Andrea Bocelli.
The event, titled Il suono dell’Universo – Dialogo sotto le stelle tra onde gravitazionali e suoni cosmici (‘The sound of the Universe - A dialogue under the stars between gravitational waves and cosmic sounds’), was hosted by Patrizio Roversi, an Italian writer and television presenter. During the event, REINFORCE Project Coordinator, Stavros Katsanevas, and EGO researcher Wanda Diaz Merced, accompanied by sounds created by Massimo Magrini, musician and researcher on digital signal processing and gestural devices for human-machine interaction, explained to the public how humans are increasingly able to listen to, as well as observe, the cosmos, thanks to extraordinary research infrastructures, such as the Virgo antenna.
