REINFORCE Winter Challenge 2022
This January, the REINFORCE team offers you an unprecedented opportunity: the Winter Challenge 2022! Help us support researchers in the fields of High Energy Physics and Gravitational Wave Astronomy to optimize their detectors and enter the February Draw which offers 4 scholarships for the REINFORCE International Training Course in July 2022 in Greece!
The Scholarships are funded by the European School Innovation Academy (ESIA).
What is this all about?
From Tuesday the 18th of January 2022 at 18:00 CET to Monday the 21st of February 2022 at 23:59 CET, the REINFORCE projects’ GWitchHunters and New Particle Search at CERN teams invite you to browse them and perform a set of tasks (For more information please consult the requirements below). All registered participants who complete the classifications will automatically join a draw for four scholarships to the REINFORCE International Training School that will be announced in the last week of January. The Winter challenge will count only classifications that happen between the 18th of January 2022 at 18:00 CET to Monday the 21st of February 2022 at 23:59 CET.
Who can join?
Only adult citizens in Europe who have registered in the Zooniverse platform are eligible to participate in the draw. However, we encourage everyone who wants to join the challenge to check it out. Please consult the challenge section description above to learn more.
The Challenge
To join the REINFORCE Winter Challenge and be able to participate in the draw of February 2022, you will need to:
Step 1
Register and Sign in in Zooniverse so we can identify you and you can enter the prize draw. Participation in the Zooniverse projects in general, doesn’t require registration.
Step 2
Visit the GWitchHunters or / and the New Particle Search at CERN project pages and study their contents. You can do the full challenge for both projects or one of them. Τhe actions refering to the challenge must be done between the 18th of January at 18:00 CET to Monday the 21st of February at 23:59 CET. The challenges are described below:
GWitchHunters Challenge:
– Visit the GWitchHunters Project page.- On the desktop website: Classify at least 20 subjects per each of the Level 1,2 and 3 (i.e. at least 20 subjects for Level 1,
20 for Level 2 and 20 for Level 3), for a total of 60 subjects.
– On the Zooniverse mobile app: Classify at least 40 subjects in both Mobile Challenges (20 on “Lasso that glitch” and 20 on “Noise Profiler”).
New Particle Search at CERN Challenge:
– Visit the New Particle Search at CERN Project and do at least 100 classifications at Stage 1 (Identification of Displaced Vertices).The volunteers who will enter the draw will be the ones where a match (as given by the Zooniverse feedback) was found in at least 50% of the classifications.
Step 3
Stay tuned for the online draw which will be announced both here and on the Zooniverse at the end of February.
When will the draw happen?
The challenge ends on Monday, the 21st of February 2022 at 23:59 CET. Those eligible to join the draw will be notified via email. The draw will happen in the end of February in a public live streaming event. The date and details of the event will be announced soon in this page and in the REINFORCE project website (https://www.reinforceeu.eu/).
